About SeaSaLT

I set up SeaSaLT after navigating the waiting lists myself as a parent of a child with speech delay. I know how overwhelming it can feel - and how much difference the right support makes.

I'm Aoife Dillon - a CORU-registered Speech & Language Therapist with a BSc(Hons) from Trinity College Dublin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the things parents and adult clients ask me most.

What happens at a first appointment?

The aim of the initial consultation is to gather a comprehensive case history and understand your (or your child's) communication needs and goals. We will discuss any previous speech and language therapy input, review relevant reports, and talk about supports currently in place at school, home or workplace.

I may carry out some informal assessment activities if appropriate. At the end, we'll agree on the most helpful next steps, which may include a therapy block, recommendations, strategies to try at home, or a plan for further support. The goal is for you to leave feeling informed, reassured, and clear about what happens next.

How do I know if my child needs speech therapy?

If you're concerned about your child's speech, language, understanding, social communication, or feeding skills, it can be helpful to speak with a speech and language therapist. Some signs may include difficulty being understood, challenges following instructions, limited vocabulary, frustration when communicating, or concerns raised by public health nurses, GP, preschool or school staff.

An initial consultation can help determine whether support is needed and what next steps would be most helpful. Early advice and reassurance can make a big difference.

Do you work with adults as well as children?

Yes. I work with adults as well as children. I provide support for adults experiencing communication or swallowing difficulties following Stroke, Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), and neurological decline. Support is tailored to each person's needs and goals, with practical strategies for everyday communication.

Are sessions online or in person?

Sessions are primarily offered in person, as this is my preferred way of working and often allows for the most effective support. In some circumstances, online sessions can be facilitated where appropriate and helpful.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the goals and the starting point, but a typical block is 6-12 sessions. After the initial assessment I give an honest estimate, and we review progress regularly. Some children require ongoing therapeutic intervention alongside development.

Do you work with children with autism or additional needs?

Yes - I have extensive experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, and a range of additional needs, using approaches like Colourful Semantics, Gestalt Language Learning, Lámh, and low- and high-tech AAC support.

Is there a waitlist?

From time to time we can have a waitlist. We encourage therapy breaks which open up spaces for others. We also run group interventions, which can be very beneficial for both children and adult communication skills.

★★★★★
"Excellent service provided by Aoife. She is a dedicated professional and so kind. My little boy Jack was only understood at home with his speech delay, and after only 6 months with Aoife is doing amazingly in Junior Infants. Best decision we made as a family contacting Aoife."
